DATING- The Grill

August 31, 2010 — Leave a comment

Today is the last installment of this blog series on dating. Thanks for the feedback I’ve received during this series of posts. I hope you find them helpful for yourself, and for someone else as well. Although most of these writings are centered upon signs to watch for in others, I am not writing any of this to be a downer. Actually, I write for hope. It is my hope that these writings will fill you with hope that there is good in your future as you walk in the ways of the LORD.

**********************************************************************************

There is a place you don’t want to be. On the grill.

Let’s say you took the lure, got hooked, and you were reeled in on the once invisible line. Now, you sit there and think, “It was soooo obvious!” Or maybe, “How did I miss the line? I should have seen that!”

Here’s the sad reality for fish. The fish gets hooked and then cooked.

A lot of people get stuck in this place though. Your reality is for another’s consumption. Sorry, that’s not supposed to sound cannibalistic. I just mean that people can be grilled over and over by the same person, and in the process their value is taken. Then their dignity is shaken. The heat of the grill eventually, turns their soul crispy. They are so ashamed by the way they’ve been burned, that they think there is no hope in the future for them.

The grill leaves somebody feeling like they are

worthless

damaged goods

beyond repair

and sad.

One day, a friend told me about this one girl he knew who had gone through a lot. He didn’t know how much she had gone through, but he noticed something about her.

She was sad.

I think that is one of the most horrible things that can permanently permeate someone’s existence.

They are sad.

They are so consumed with yesterday’s guilt that they see no hope in the future or any power in the present.

Let me say this. If you’re on the grill, and the heat is turning up, and you think you are done for,

don’t give up.

Don’t let the sadness overtake you. The words I say to you now can sound empty, and they likely will if you are overcome with sadness. Yet, you may be reading this intrigued for some reason. I believe there is a deeper place in your soul that is yearning for the LORD, and you are seeking God as you read this now. So let Hope illuminate your soul once again.

Hear the Word of the Lord that your story isn’t finished!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13

When you think it is all over, don’t count God out. He’s not finished with you yet.
